Ejura: More Deaths Would Have Been Recorded If We Had Used Proper Force-Military

According the the General Officer Commander of Central Command, Brigadier General Joseph Aphour, there would have been a record of more deaths if the Military had used excessive force during the clash between locals of Ejura and Military.

Speaking to the the Committee of Inquiry on the Ejura chaos he stated that the Military employed minimal force in controlling the crowd during the chaos.

He stated that at a point it became so terrible that the civilians were firing from the crowd at the military and so the commander at that point used minimum force by trying to fire to maim those people who were involved and that is why when the Military first fired no deaths was recorded.

He noted that more people would have died if the Military wanted to use proper force of firing indiscriminately.

‘We used the minimum force when we tried to maim the people’ he said. With that minimum force the effect was there, the crowd dispersed and we were able to control the situation”, he stressed.

When General Joseph Aphour appeared before the committee, Justice Kingsley Koomson frowned on the use of live bullets in such situations and recommended rubber bullet.
