Gunmen Attack Nigeria President’s Convoy

A Convoy carrying an advanced security team for President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has been attacked by gunmen in Katsina.

On Tuesday the Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu confirmed the attack noting that two people sustained minor injuries.

According to Shehu the convoy was attacked while on it’s way to Daura, Buhari’s hometown to prepare to prepare for his visit.

The convoy contained security guards as well as protocol and media officers.

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy,” said the statement. “Two people in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”

“The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State,” the statement further said.

Meanwhile Katsina is well known for such attacks hence many Nigerians not so surprised about the event.
