On Friday 6th August 2021, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako declined to decide on what should be done to the Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman following a report that was laid before the floor of Parliament by a nine-member bi-partisan committee set to probe the Sputnik V saga.
This is after the minority in parliament had called for a vote of no confidence on the health minister who is equally and MP representing Dormaa central constituency.
During the public siting of the investigative committee, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman admitted to have involved Emirati middleman to procure the Sputnik V dose who cost $19 per dose instead of the $10 per dose on the international market.
He noted that he took a unilateral decision to procure the vaccines without contacting parliament because the country was in a state of emergency and he need to act fast without thinking.
After the committee presented its report it attracted massive debate in Parliament leading to minority Chief Whip Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak accusing the chairman of the committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markins of trying to cover the health minister.
Following the heated debate in Parliament, the sit in Parliament adjourned the sitting as a result of failure of both minority and majority reaching a concensus.
