Current information picked up by Pinaxnews.com indicates that the Methodist Church has become the biggest religious group in the United Kingdom to allow same-sex marriages.
As per reports, the Church reported on Wednesday that same sex couples will be permitted to get hitched on its premises. After banters on the subject at the Methodist Conference, the recommendations to permit same-sex relationships were approved with 254 votes in favor and 46 opposed.
The Methodist Church disclosed that priests who go against the progressions won’t be compelled to do same-sex relationships.
Dignity and Worth, an actvist group in the Methodist Church, said the vote was a “pivotal advance headed straight toward justice and inclusion” after numerous long stretches of here and there agonizing discussions. Rev.. Sam McBratney, who happens to be the leader of the group, applauded the “bold” step taken by the congregation.
The congregation has a participation of 164,000, making it the fourth-biggest group of Christian houses of worship in the United Kingdom.
