Following his spectacular penalty miss against Uruguay, Dede Ayew has received harsh criticism.
The Black stars captain had a fantastic opportunity to advance Ghana to the round of 16, but he dashed Ghanaians’ dreams by sending the ball into Martin Silva’s hands. Dede acknowledged responsibility but stated that it was hard to take the penalty he missed when speaking with the reporters after the game.
As he continued, he also expressed his sadness in himself for the screams of more than 30 million Ghanaians who had earlier believed that Ghana’s game versus Uruguay was already decided and the ideal opportunity to get retribution for what Suarez had done in 2010. According to him, “I’m unhappy since we had the chance to go to the next level. The penalty I missed hurts because we made mistakes in the game that depended on small things. Many Ghanaians have criticized him for being ungrateful while arguing that he ought to have let Kudus take the penalty to keep himself in the running for the golden boot.
