The family of murdered social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed well know as Macho Kaaka has alerted the Interior Minister that it will not testify before the 3-member Committee that is investigating the Ejura disturbance.
A statement from the family indicates that even though they are grateful that the 3-member Committee that is probing the issue has been set, they believe the probing at the end will not give them the justice they want.
It made this statement on Thursday 8th July 2021 where it indicated that after monitoring the committee’s sitting for the past few days it doesn’t have the confidence in the committee’s ability to give them the justice they want.
The family went on to say that some comments from the committee members have exposed their bias as far as the issue is concerned.
”We the family of Ibrahim Mohammed alias Kaaka regret to officially notify you of our decision not to participate in the ongoing public inquisition which is purportedly concerned with the circumstances that led to the unfortunate occurrences on Tuesday”, the statement stated.
Our regret with the decision to not establish this inquiry using the powers provided under Article 278 of the 1992 Constitution. We are concerned that the failure to institute a proper Commission of Inquiry under Article 278, means that this Committee of inquiry does not have the powers, rights and privileges of the High Court or a Justice of the High Court at a trial. As such, the Committee has no power to (a) enforce the attendance of witnesses and examine them on oath”, it stated.
Many people such as the MCE of Ejura, Mohammed Salisu Bamba, General Joseph Aphour, and Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah.
