The Latest on The Assassination Of Haiti’s President; Prime Minister Claude Joseph Now In Control

During the early hours of Wednesday 7th July 2021 Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse was attacked in his home at the outskirts of the capital Port-au-Prince by unknown persons.

In a statement made by Prime Minister Claude Joseph, the President’s wife, Martine Moïse was also shot in the attack.

The Prime Minister said; ”a group of unidentified individuals of which some spoke Spanish attacked the private residence of the president of the republic and wounded his head”.

In a telephone interview Mr. Joseph disclosed that he is currently the one running the counrty.

Mr. Joseph who asked the country to ‘remain calm’ said the President was cowardly assassinated but the murderers cannot assassinate his ideas.

The Prime Minister noted that the country’s security situation is currently under the control of the police and military of Haiti.

Not long ago the opposition leaders demanded that the President stepped down since his term of office legally ended in February 2021 but the President and his supporters remained with an argument that his term of office began in 2017, which was followed by a chaotic appointment of a provisional president to serve for long.
