Makola Fire: Blame Ghana Water Company, Not Us-Says Ghana Fire Service

The Ghana Fire Service have shifted its inability to quench fire that gut shops at the Makola Markert on the Ghana Water Company.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Fire Service, Ellis Robinson Oko said that the actions of some government institutions like the Ghana Water Company, Electricity Company of Ghana and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly made dousing the fire that engulfed parts of Makola market more challenging.

He noted that its not that they run out of water but instead the fire hydrants didn’t have water in them so the fire fighters depended on water from Circle and Alajo.

He stressed that its the Ghana Water that manages the fire hydrants and not the Fire Service.

Mr. Oko said as at the time the fire happened all the water hydrants were not flowing yet the Water Company did’t tell them why they shut it.

”We couldn’t leave our duty and go ask Ghana Water Company why there was no water in our hydrants so we did what was required at the time”, the PRO stated emphatically.

This is probably in reaction to blames being shifted at the Ghana Service over the manner in which the fire burnt many shops at Makola market.
