It’s Ignorant And Stupidity To Blame Me For $17m Judgement Deal-Agyarko

Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko has reacted to claims that he should be blamed for the $170 million judgement debt hit on the government of Ghana.

According to reports a Commercial Court in London has hit the government of Ghana with $170 million judgement debt over unlawful termination of power purchase agreement with Ghana Power Generation Company (GPGC).

This agreement was called off under the Nana Addo led administration.

John Jinapor and some Ranking Members on Parliament’s Energy Committee has said that Boakye Agarko should be blamed for the $170 million judgement debt the state has incurred.

Mr. Boakye Ayarko has reacted on Eyewitness News with claims that he cannot be held accountable for the cancelation of the agreement because he only acted upon orders of the cabinet at the time.

“It is an act of ignorance and stupidity [to make such suggestions]. When a Cabinet decides on a matter, how does it become the personal decision of the individual who has to do the representation of Cabinet? To think like that means you are not even fit to participate in governance” an obviously exasperated Boakye Agyarko said.

“A Cabinet takes a decision based on a report produced by a technical committee and the sector Minister is asked to go and implement the report then you say that it is the sector Minister’s personal liability?,” he quizzed.
