The people of Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana have said that they will need five to ten years in order to settle the Electricity bills they owe the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
On Monday 22nd November, some youth of Manya and Yilo Krobo protested against the ECG’s move to introduce prepaid meters in the area.
Prior to the introduction of prepaid meters in the area, residents have complained about wrongful billing and ECG’s inconsiderate handling of matters arising.
Secretary of the United Krobo Foundation, Joshua Evor speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise hosted by Alfred Occansey on Tuesday said they need five to ten years to settle debts they owe the ECG.
”This amount of money, people of Krobo cannot pay. It will take us ten years to pay Ghs20,000”, he said.
He went on to say ”the people of Krobo did not say we will not pay electricity bills”.
ECG did not come to read our meters between 2014 and 2018 and we are saying that the bill should be cancelled.
