The President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday 15th December 2021 addressed Ghanaians for the 27th time and he disclosed that the time is not right to open the land borders in a bid to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.
According to the President government is monitoring the fourth wave of the Covid-19 and also monitoring vaccination in Ghana’s neighbouring countries and if they become satisfied with it the borders will be opened.
”We are monitoring the level of threat of the disease and ongoing vaccinations in our neighbouring countries, and, as soon as we are satisfied that it is safe to do so, the borders will be opened. Until then, I believe this is not the right time to reopen our land borders, especially as we are determined to prevent the 4th wave, and, as such, they will remain closed until further notice,” he said.
He admitted that he acknowledges the fact that Ghanaians are going through difficulties now that the borders are closed.
“To my fellow Ghanaians living along the borders of our nation, I know of the difficulties occasioned by the closure of our border.
