Ghanaian International Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni who got nominated at the 64th Grammy Awards has reacted to Wendy Shay’s comment on Grammy nomination being based on connection.
Speaking on his nomination he noted that his nomination wasn’t based on connection but based on the criteria of the award board.
According to him, with the Grammy there is no way an artiste could have an influence on nomination because it is not back door stuff, adding that the Grammy is an international body.
”You can’t have influence on a scheme like that. This is not back door stuff. This is an international body. So I don’t have that power, artistes don’t have that power over an international body which have many members who are voting and you don’t know the members. How are you going to be able to influence the members?”.
Rocky made this comment when answering a question on whether an artiste could have an influence on his nomination in an interview on TV3 New Day show aired on 3rd December.
In Ghana an artiste like Wendy Shay has questioned how Rocky Dawuni got his nomination in the Grammy asking him to show other Ghanaian artistes the way if it involves connection.
Clearing the air on his nomination he stated that Grammy isn’t like any other award scheme where an artiste can do back door stuff.
Rocky Dawuni’s ”Voice of Bunbon” was nominated for the Best Global Music award at the 64th Grammy and he is in the same category with artistes like Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, Daniel Ho and friends, and Wizkid.
The 2022 Grammy awards is expected to take place on 31st January at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
