According to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) transport fares may rise by Monday October 25th.
Although the percentage at which this increment may be done hasn’t popped up yet but the union says the expected increment will be as a result of increased fuel prices.
“The rate at which our fuel prices are increased, I don’t want to preempt anything because there could be another increment soon,” the Industrial Relations Officer of GPRTU Alhaji Abass Imoro said.
He stated that after the union met with the Transport Ministry they had no choice than to increase the fares probably by next week.
Hitherto, the union mentioned that they had projected till December 2021 before it may make any varying transport fare from what it decided on for the last transport increment but the rate at which fuel prices keep rising leaves them with no option than to increase again.
Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise show, Alhaji Imoro stated that the union can’t be blamed if transport fares are increased.
“Government came up with a sharing policy and we have done our part but they have not. So, hopefully, by next week, we shall increase transport fares.”
“As we speak now, those who are not in any union have increased their fares. The floating trotro drivers have increased their fares”, he added.
