The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in the Volta region of Ghana has called on the government of the day to protect teachers across the country from students and parents.
This comes after a teacher of the Three Town Senior High School in Denu, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region got attacked on Wednesday 11th August 2021.
This call was made by Mr. David Gellie, the President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) who was addressing delegates at the 2021 Volta Regional Quadrennial Conference of the Association held on Thursday 19th August, 2021.
He notified the government on the need to protect its employees against attacks.
He made this comment at the back of a teacher who sustained deep cut wounds on his upper arm when he tried to prevent a final year student from bullying a first year student.
Gilbert Akapko, a final year visual art student wounded the teacher by using a cutter to inflict wounds on the teacher after which he bolted.
He was arraigned before court but now on bail and has been asked to reappear before court.
