The Member of Parliament for Temale Central Murtala Mohammed has that Members of Parliament in Ghana are the least paid in the world and that is the more reason they need more than a car loan for a smooth execution of their duties to their various constituencies.
He is of the opinion that the Land Cruiser vehicles that is due Members of Parliament isn’t anything that can be categorized as luxury but rather a necessity that will aid the smooth execution of their work.
The former deputy Minister of Trade noted that as an important arm of government in Ghana’s democratic dispensation, it is wise that MPs will be resourced to deliver their political mandate to the state an cars are one of such resources needed.
He stressed that other arms of government have multiple cars to themselves in a bid to deliver their constitutional mandate and the Members of Parliament should not in anyway be left out.
Mr. Mohammed revealed that even though the vehicles haven been give the MPs, the state has already started deducting the loans from MPs’ emolument.
He added that other government officials benefiting from multiple vehicles are not better than Members of Parliament to be cheating the MPs in that regard.
