Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Otukonor has subtly thrown fresh missiles at the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Reacting to the fight against galamsey by the President of Ghana he stated that the burning of excavators that has been introduced by Nana Addo is amateurish because it isn’t enough deterrent to stop people from engaging in illegal mining.
According to him no well reasoning leader will resort to burning of excavators when the excavators can be confiscated and used to desilt drainages because raining season is fast approaching.
”It is childish, it is amateurish to assume that just going to burn somebody’s excavators, it will become a deterrent enough to get people away in particular…..”’
When asked if he would have resorted to the burning of excavators if he were in government he said ; ”absolutely not it will be the least, in fact this shouldn’t cross the mind of any well reasoned person who is in leadership. You know why we are entering into the raining season, I have biggest problem as a country is how to desilt our stop drains (flooding). he stated
He added that the country spends over Ghs2 billion on desilting of drainages in Ghana and so it is not smart enough that the President burns the excavators instead of using these free equipment into judicious use.
