In a bid to strengthen Ghana’s security, President John Dramani Mahama has announced new appointments for the leadership of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and Ghana Prisons Service.
A statement from the Presidency, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, confirmed the changes on Friday, March 14, 2025.
The appointments are as follows:
- Ghana Prisons Service: Deputy Director-General of Prisons (DDGP) 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie has been promoted to Director-General, succeeding Isaac Kofi Egyir.
- Ghana National Fire Service: Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong steps into the role of Chief Fire Officer, taking over from Julius A. Kuunuor.
- Ghana Immigration Service: Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCI) Samuel Basentale has been named Comptroller-General, replacing Kwame Asuah Takyi.
The new heads are expected to tackle critical issues such as prison overcrowding, enhancing fire safety measures, and tightening border control. The shakeup reflects the government’s focus on boosting efficiency, accountability, and professionalism within these key security agencies.
