The supermodel recently opened up about her newfound sense of self-assurance and how it’s made her more comfortable in her skin than ever before.
“I have not had age plastic surgery stuff,” Tyra told People in an interview published Sept. 19. “Not against it. I just haven’t had it yet. Maybe I’ll need a little something, something. But I’m not insecure about it.”
In fact, the former America’s Next Top Model host explained how she’s not only embracing her age but has started using it to her advantage. Because, as it turns out, there are perks to getting older.
“I look in the mirror and I don’t feel 50,” she said, referencing her upcoming milestone birthday on December 4. “I keep saying I’m 50 as an excuse. When people ask me I say, ‘I ain’t doing that—I’m 50.’ Or, ‘I’m just going to tell you what I think because I’m 50.'”
Getting older has also made Tyra wiser, as she noted she’s particular about who she works with and what projects she takes on.
“I don’t have the body I used to have when I was on runways, and so to have these clothes fit me like this, it’s rare to have a tailored piece look good on curves,” she described of recently starring in designer Karen Millen‘s new campaign. “I feel empowered.”
Being picky about where her time and energy are spent is one of the reasons she’s not afraid to shake things up. After all, earlier this year, Tyra announced her departure from co-hosting Dancing With the Stars after three seasons.
“I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and entrepreneurship, but also producing more TV behind the scenes,” she told TMZ in March. “I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor.”
She added, “You’ll see me creating things, not just hosting.”
And while Tyra hasn’t gone under the knife to try and maintain her appearance, there are a few A-listers who have been open about their plastic surgery journeys.
