If The Euros Can Be Played During A Pandemic, AFCON Can Go Ahead Too-Samuel Eto’o

The newly elected President of Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) Samuel Eto’s has said that there isn’t enough excuse on why the upcoming AFCON should be postponed.

This comes after some European clubs raised concerns and its reluctance in releasing players for the tournament.

In a letter to FIFA, the ECA said travel restrictions present a barrier while the spread of the Omicron variant also poses a threat to the players.

However Eto’o who was reacting to calls for a postponement said if Euro 2020 was played during the pandemic, then the AFCON can successfully be played too.

“I do not see a convincing reason to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations, the Euro was played during the pandemic with full stadiums,” Eto stated.

Meanwhile Cameroon is slated to host the AFCON 2022 from January 9th 2022 to February 6th.
