Controversial Ghanaian actress Akuapem Poloo who got jailed for taking an inappropriate picture with her son on his 7th birthday has on Wednesday been set free by a court of Appeal in Ghana.
She has been slapped with GHS12,000.00 fine instead of continuing her 90-day jail term.
This comes after a High Court presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey dismissed an appeal filed by the actress’ lawyers who were challenging the initial judgement of the court to have the actress jailed for 90 days.
”This court will not interfere and the appeal is therefore dismissed”, Justice Aryeetey said while dismissing the appeal.
On Wednesday, 15th December the panel chaired by his Lordship Justice Henry Anthony Kwoffie stated that even though the 90-day jail term is right they are replacing it with a fine.
“We have decided to take the substantive appeal regarding the submission filed by the learned counsel of the Appellant and the fact that the Republic does not oppose,” the court said.
The court further said that it is reconsidering the judgement because of the 7-year-old boy involved and the fact that Akuapem Poloo is a single mother who has shown remorse.
