Youth Lack Skills Required For Jobs Available-Ken Ofori Atta

The Minister of Finace Ken Ofori-Atta has said that Ghanaian youths or young graduates lack the needed skills set for jobs available in Ghana.

According to him there is a wide margin between what students learn in school and what the job market requires from them.

He advised that educational institutions in the country especially universities align their trainings with the industry needs especially in times where unemployment is on the rise in the country.

“We have about 9 million people in a global economy that is driven by digitization, even though the jobs are in that direction we have less than a thousand graduates with IT related skills every year from our tertiary universities. What has put the universities to sleep without realizing this major shift in where the world is going?” he observed.

Recall that not long ago the Finance Minister encouraged fresh graduates of the University of Professional Studies, Accra to engage in their own businesses since the government pay roll is full.

His recent comment again indicates that the Finance Minister is looking for ways and means of getting the unemployment blame off his government’s neck.
