Momo Tax Introduction By Government Draconian-Nana Aba Fires Gov’t

Broadcast journalist and Managress of GHone TV, Nana Aba Anamoah has reacted to government’s move to impose taxes on mobile money transactions in 2022.

The Finance Minister while presenting the budget on 17th November 2021 said in Parliament; it’s becoming clear there exists the enormous potential to increase tax revenues by bringing into the tax bracket, transactions that could be best defined as being undertaken in the informal economy.

After considerable deliberations, the government has decided to place a levy on all electronic transactions to widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector. Thus shall be known as the Electronic Transaction Levy or E-Levy”.

The levy will be 1.75 percent charge on all electronic transactions comprising mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, and inward remittances to be borne by the sender except that which will be borne by the receiver.

But Nana Aba Anamoah reacting to this has disagreed with the government on the move.

Sharing a story where the Vice President of Ghana in 2020 stated that there shouldn’t be any taxes on e-transactions. Nana Aba quizzed what changed.
