Mmeber of Parliament Ursula Owusu Ekufful has reacted to the e-levy which government of Ghana has introduce and will be effective from 2022.
There have been calls from the general public for government to scrap the 1.7 percent levy it will be imposing on all electronic transactions in Ghana from 2022 since it’s draconian.
The likes of Nana Aba Anamaoah has questioned why the government is imposing the tax on electronic transactions but lifting that of toll booth.
Reacting to the ongoing conversation, the Minister of Communication and digilization has said that although people are complaining that those who usually engage in the momo transactions are people and so the percentage of the tax should be reconsidered, if a person can make a transaction of 100 cedis in a day then it means the person isn’t poor.
She asked that the definition for poor in Ghana must be relooked at.
