E-Levy: Clueless NPP Gov’t Did Not Engage Service Providers Before Introduction-Sam George

The member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Samuel Nartey George has said that the government of Ghana did not engage and of the service providers in the telcoms space before announcing the introduction of tax on mobile money service in the 2022 budget.

In a tweet he wrote; Let me state for the records that the govt HAS NOT engaged any of the service providers in the telecoms space on how the draconian “digital tax” would be implemented. How do you announce a tax when those to implement it & be affected by it are left in the dark? Clueless bunch.

””The NCA and the Ministry of Communications are now inviting Telcoms and Service providers in the space to a meeting on Friday to discuss implementation of a policy announced in the budget? Such a clueless bunch of managers. Post facto thinking,” he added.

The Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta announced on Wednesday 17th November that in 2022 will add a new levy on all electronic to increase tax net.

“It is becoming clear there exists enormous potential to increase tax revenues by bringing into the tax bracket, transactions that could be best defined as being undertaken in the ‘informal economy’,” the Finance Minister said on Tuesday.
