The Communication caucus of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has cautioned Ghanaians to brace up for more hardship as taxes will be increased in Wednesday’s budget.
Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma on 16th November 2021, the Director of Communication, Abass Nurudeen said from all indications there’s no hope in Wednesday’s budget which Ken Ofori-Atta will be addressing the nation on because the NPP has shown Ghanaians little empathy.
Citing Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s speech in 2016, Abass said; “Dr Bawumia promised to turn Ghana’s fortunes from taxation to production, but now the opposite is what we are experiencing”.
“we have done our checks and made our assessments and we are reliably informed that God willing [on Wednesday] the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will introduce more taxes and even increase the rates of existing ones”, Abass Nurudeen told Auanaba Kofi Asante Enin, host of the show.
He further advised Ghanaians to live within their means and cut down cost so they can survive the pending hardship.
Ralphael Sarfo Patrick, the Deputy TESCON Coordinator who was equally present on the show replied Abass Nurudeen saying; “although taxes are the major means of revenue mobilisation of every economy, NPP government will not be insensitive to Ghanaians. We understand them and know exactly what they need so [Wednesday]’s budget will be a hope for Ghanaians especially the youth to tap into its benefits”.
