The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed that 22 people have died from the outbreak of ‘Yellow Fever’ in the Savanna Region of Ghana.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise show on Tuesday 16th November, Director of Public Health at the Service Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe said the outbreak is in four districts which are West Gonja, North Gonja, Bole and Wa.

Earlier reports had it that 14 people had died of the disease of which one was a male adult and remaining 13 were children but Dr. Asiedu Bekoe has said that the number stands at 22 and not 14.

“The number is actually 22 and not 14 and we have sent a surveillance team to these districts.”

Speaking to host of ‘Sunrise’ show Afred Occansey, Dr. Asiedu Bekoe said; “Ghana is endemic with Yellow Fever so we need to vaccinate people. We sent a team to the north. It is true we have vaccinated all the 260 districts.”

the virus is predominant in monkeys. Mosquitoes bite the monkeys, they go and bite humans and it affects them so we are vaccinating up to 60-years and it’s free”, he explains.
