Seven Injured Following Discharge Of Firearm During Suhum Chief’s Durbar

Following an alleged accidental firing of guns at a durbar to honour newly installed Akyempemhene, Nana Amoako Darko at Suhum in the Eastern Region on Saturday 6th November 2021, seven persons have sustained injuries.

According to the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, one Sergeant Welbeck Agyina of station CID Osu, who is the cousin of the newly installed Akyempemhene fired a pump action gun in the midst of the crowd.

The crowd/celebrants were reportedly waiting at the Suhum main lorry park for the newly installed sub-chief who had already sworn his oath of allegiance to the Suhum chief, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi.

The seven victims who sustained several degrees of injuries are currently seeking medical attention at Suhum Government Hospital after they were rushed there.

Mr. Welbeck, the suspect was immediately disarmed and handed over to the police. He sustainedbruises in his right palm following the incident.

At the scene an empty 70 mm BB catridge which is suspected to have been discharged by the suspect was retrieved by the police.

Meanwhile he is in police custody assisting investigation.
