Provisional results of Cape Verde’s election indicates that opposition candidate José Maria Neves has taken the lead in the first round of the country’s Presidential election.
This year seven candidates from different parties are competing over the presidency race except the current President Jorge Carlo Fonseca because its not allowed to to serve for more than two conservative times.
Owing from the provisional results from most polling stations the major opposition candidate Mr. Neves has about 51% with Carlos Veiga of the governing party standing at 43%.
In a situation where these results reflect the same as the country’s Election Commission Mr. Neves will be declared winner since he is leading with a clear majority.
According to reports Mr. Veiga has already accepted defeat and has gone ahead to congratulate his contender Mr. Neves.
