Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has said that Ghanaians dislike for LGBTQ+ in the country transcends political or religious lines.
According to Nana Obiri Boahen as a country, gay and lesbianism cannot be entertained.
He noted that the fight against the activities of LGBTQ+ is not an NPP or NDC fight neither is it a religious one.
”This fight against the activities of LGBTQ+ in the country has nothing to do with any political party; its neither NPP’s nor NDC’s fight and it is also not a fight for the Christian or the Muslims”, he noted.
He went on to say that the activities of lesbians and gays cannot be entertained, welcomed or legalized in the country since their activities and inconsistent with some provisions in the 1992 constitution of Ghana.
”What some of us are saying is very simple; gay and lesbianism cannot be entertained and welcomed in the country”, he stated. We cannot legalize and recognize gay and lesbianism in this country; it can never happen. Every society has its likes and dislikes, provided it is inconsistent with and in contravention with some provisions in the constitution”, he noted.
”If someone come to impose a certain culture on us as Ghanaians, it is wrong and we cannot accept it. It is not the matter for the NPP and NDC MPs and so I’m not indicting any MP for not talking about the bill or not getting involved in the debate”, he added.
