LGBTQ+ Members Face Verbal Abuse From Intolerant People-Suhuyini

The member of Parliament for Temale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has waded into the ongoing conversation regarding people in the LGBTQ+ community.

He says one of the biggest problem people in the LGBTQ+ community face in the country is physical, verbal and harassments at the hands of 93% Ghanaians who are intolerant about gay activities, adding that its already criminal under section 104 of Ghana’s criminal code.

”The biggest problem LGBTTQQIAAP members face in Ghana is the physical, verbal abuse and harassment at the hands of some of the 93% of our population who are intolerant of their activities, which by the way is already criminal under section 104 of our criminal code……”, he tweeted.

He noted that decriminalizing the LGBTQ in the country won’t convert the 93% of the country’s population to desist from abusing and harassing them.

”Decriminalization will not convert some of these 93% who abuse them to stop abusing/harassing them. Clause 22 of our bill which will criminalize attacks and abuse against people accused of LGBTTQQIAAP can protect them. So if you care about their safety and rights this bill”, he made this comment in a tweet on 11th October 2021.
