If Galamsey Isn’t Addressed Well Ghana Will Start Importing Food Stuff-John Dumelo Opines

Ghanaian actor cum politician and farmer, John Dumelo has said that if the issue of ‘galamsey’ activities are not properly dealt with, soon the country will import food stuff.

The actor made this comment while reacting to a question asked him regarding the impact ‘galamsey’ is having on farming in Ghana on Kastle FM.

Reacting to the question he expressed worry over how the illegal mining is affecting forest lands that should be used for farming.

He stated that if Ghana’s forest reserves are not protected soon the country won’t be able to produce its own food stuff and would have to import”.

”When you look at the way galamsey activities are destroying our forest lands it’s a threat to farming and food production in Ghana”.

”Our forest reserves have to be protected because if we don’t do so very soon we will start importing the likes of yam, cassava, okro, plantain, into the country”, he said.

Right now some people will say that the situation isn’t so alarming but if we don’t take care in the next ten years we will be importing food stuffs because we have used all our lands for galamsey”, he added.
