The ex President of France, Nicholas Sarkozy on Thursday 30th September 2021 was sentenced to one year in prison over his illegal campaign financing.
He is unlikely to serve his jail term behind bars as the judge say he will serve the sentence by wearing an electronic bracelet at home.
The former President had 13 co-defendants but all 13 were found guilty.
The judge speaking on the judgement said, “Nicolas Sarkozy knew the spending limit, “He knew he shouldn’t exceed it”.
Sarkozy’s lawyer Thierry Herzog speaking outside the courtroom said he would be launching an appeal.
