The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has sacked two of his ministers in a rare cabinet reshuffle.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Sabo Nanono and the Minister of Power Sale Mamman.
According to a statement from the presidency it stated that the President took the decision of dismissing the ministers following an ”independent and critical self review” of government programmes and policies.
The statement mentioned that the review; “identify and strengthen weak areas, close gaps, build cohesion and synergy” in governance and in managing the economy.
Mr. Buhari has asked the Environment Minister to take charge of the Agriculture ministry and the minister of works and housing has also been asked to over see the power ministry till new ministers have been appointed.
Mr. Buhari who rarely reshuffles ministers will likely replace more ministers according to his spokesperson Garba Shehu.
