24 members of a family living at Dazanke village of Bargaja ward in Isa Local Government area of Sokoto State, Nigeria have died of food poisoning.
According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ali Innameon confirming the incident disclosed that the incident occurred on 9th August 2021.
The statement revealed that a fertiliser type of chemical, popularly called ‘Gishirin Lalle in Hausa’ was considered as common salt and used in family cooking.
The commissioner of Health noted that the entire family who ate the meal lost their lives excerpt two female members of the family who didn’t eat the meal but only tasted it.
“Regrettably, the entire family who ate the meal lost their lives, except two female members, who merely tasted the food and are currently responding to treatment, with very good chances of survival.
“Attempts to save the lives of all the affected people by providing the needed medical care proved abortive,” Dr. Innameon noted.
The Ministry seized the opportunity to be cautious during cooking citing the recent incident as a typical example of the harm that can befall anyone if they are not cautious.
