Police Shoot 3 Armed Robbers And Arrest 2 Others In Accra

Three notorious armed robbers identified as Akika Christian Roberts, Alhassan and Alhaji who have been on police wanted list have been shot dead by the police in a shoot out at Opeibea, near airport with two other accomplice arrested on Tuesday 9th August, 2021.

According to a press release from Police Affairs Directorate signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kwesi Ofori disclosed that intelligence available to the police indicated that the gang planned to attack and rob a businessman who was to withdraw money from a bank around Airport.

The police were said to have laid surveillance on the robbers when they showed up, and then closed in on them.

One of the suspect Akika Christian Roberts who was with a Taurus foreign pistol fired and wounded a police officer in the shootout but later succumbed to the police firing.

Two of the suspects, Abdul Latif aged 47 and Prosper Koku aged 27 who were suspected to be a part of the gang were arrested in the operation and are currently in police custody.

Meanwhile the police officer who sustained gun wounds in the right leg is currently in a better condition and receiving medical treatment.

Ending the press release the police assured Ghanaians that it is determined to end street, highway and residential robberies.
