UTAG Declares Nationwide Striking Starting Monday, 2nd August

The University Teachers Association of Ghana ‘s (UTAG) National Executive Committee (NEC) has asked all it members to take away all teaching materials from campuses as a result of its strike starting on Monday, 2nd August.

The members have been directed to lay down their tools as well as desist from teaching, invigilation and marking of examination scripts until government reaches a consensus with them.

The University teachers have decided to embark on a strike as a result of government’s refusal to heed to their calls on improving the poor conditions of service of the teachers.

A statement signed by the UTAG National President, Professor Charles Marfo and Dr. Erick K.K Abavare who is the National Secretary has asked its members to comply by the directive.

NEC stated that the lukewarm attitude of government representatives shows clearly that the University teachers are being taken for granted.

The UTAG President noted that for that reason they have no other option than to embark on an indefinite strike.
