Following the ongoing Parliamentary probing into the Sputnik V purchase, the Health Minister, Kweku Agyeman Manu has admitted to not seeking Parliamentary approval before attempting to procure the vaccines.
The Health Minister admitted to his mistakes when Parliament summoned him on Monday 19th July 2021 for interrogation.
Answering the question on why he made the decision to procure the vaccine without seeking Parliament’s approval, the Health Minister who appeared before a nine-member bi-partisan committee stated that he made the decision because was in an era of emergency when the cases of the virus rose.
Speaking on the Sputnik deal he stated emphatically that he didn’t think properly before entering into the Sputnik V contract.
He added that because the country was in an emergency situation he used the legislative instrument to make a decision.
