Following the assassination of Haitian President, Jovenel Moïse, Claude Joseph was made the interim Prime Minister of the country but he has agreed to step down and hand over power to Ariel Henry, a neurosurgeon.
According to the country’s election minister, Mathias Pierre Mr. Joseph agreed to step down as part of a broad political agreement which is being encouraged by the United State and others to bring stability in the country.
Mr. Joseph will be made the foreign minister in Mr. Henry’s cabinet-something which is part of the agreement.
Mr. Henry who is ever ready for the role of a Prime Minister said in an audio recording sent to reporters on Sunday made a solemn appeal to national unity.
“As prime minister, I make a solemn appeal to national unity…to protect our country from the multiple dangers that trouble us,” he said. “It is going to be through dialogue and collaboration that we will shape together the policies to implement in this interim period,” he stated.
Meanwhile during the early hours of Wednesday 7th July 2021 Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse was attacked in his home at the outskirts of the capital Port-au-Prince by unknown persons.
