Haiti: Wife of Assassinated President Jovenel Moïse Returns To The Country

Following the assassination of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse on Wednesday 7th July, his wife suffered some gun wounds and was flown to Florida for treatment.

Martine Moïse has returned to Haiti after her treatment.

When she arrived by plane into the Caribbean nation, at Port-au-Prince airport she was seen wearing a bullet proof and an arm sling probably for protection after her husband was murdered by unknown gunmen.

In a photo where she was guarded by security agents, she was greeted by the Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph and some officials on the Tarmac.

While on her Hospital bed, she was said to have made few comments about the incident stating that the attack happened so quickly and her husband couldn’t utter a ‘single word’ before dying.

According to the Haitian police, a group of foreign mercenaries including 26 Columbians and two Haitian Americans forms the group that assassinated the President.

20 people have been detained in connection to the assassination, 3 have been killed by the police and five have bolted. A Florida-based doctor, Christian Emmanuel Sanon whom the police describes as ‘key suspect’ has also been arrested.

Not long ago the opposition leaders demanded that the President stepped down since his term of office legally ended in February 2021 but the President and his supporters remained with an argument that his term of office began in 2017, which was followed by a chaotic appointment of a provisional president to serve for long.
