I Felt Compelled To Raise The Issues Against Kennedy Agyapong-Suhuyini

Member of Parliament for Temale North Alhassan Suhuyini has disclosed that he was obligated to raise issues against outspoken member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong on the floor of Parliament because of his journalistic background.

He made this comment after the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin referred the maverick lawmaker to the Privileges Committee over his threat against, Erastus Asare Donkor, a journalist with Multimedia Group.

Memeber of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong is said to have threatened the journalist stating that he (Mr. Agyapong) would have beaten the journalist mercilessly if he were the President. This got many criticisizing him over his utterances.

Mr. Suhuyini who raised the issue on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, 14th July 2021 said he felt obliged to draw the attention of the house to the conduct of an honorable colleague in Parliament.

”Mr. Speaker I urge you to exercise your powers under Article 27 and refer this conduct of the honorable which is becoming unacceptable, to the Privilege Committee to ascertain the veracity of the comments that were made and recommend sanctions if possible that will act as deterrent to other members who may be tempted to act like him”, he said.

Reacting to his request the speaker of Parliament Mr. Agyapong to the Privileges Committee.

The speaker noted that he cannot make any decision over the utterance of Mr. Agyapong against the journalist but the decision on whether his conduct smacks of abuse of privileges reside with the lawmakers.
