Let’s Use Census Data To Fix The Country-Daasebre Oti Boateng

The New Juaben Traditional Area’s Omanhene, who is a former Government Statistician Daasebre Prof Emeritus Oti Boateng has said that the 2021 Population and Housing Census should give the country a fair idea of the number of people in the country for development.

According to him now that people in the country are being counted this is the time to embrace the #fixthecountry movement by engaging in dialogues with all stake holders because its a democratic call to action.

“recent agitations by a significant section of Ghanaians for fixing the country have grown louder and louder. In a democracy, this peaceful call to action must be embraced with dialogue and honest exchanges amongst all stakeholders. It is clear that the call to fix the country is a summons to development of mother Ghana ”

Daasebre Oti Boateng is of the opinion that the country can be fixed if specific things that needs to be fixed are outlined as well as areas that needs that particular fixing brought to book.

“There is also the need to know the size and structure of the population of the population in all the affected catchment areas to be fixed in order to provide the criteria for prioritization of actions as well as the vital information on the beneficiaries therein,” he stated

Speaking on Sunday in Koforidua few hours to census night, he said modern-day census has nothing to do with taxation, but purely for development.

He added that population data has become crucial thing in planning for social and economic development and for formulation of realistic population policies, implementation, and evaluation.
