2021 Census: Counting Comences

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Sunday, 27th June 2021 commenced the actual enumeration of people in Ghana, starting with those in transit.

Reports indicates that enumerators in this year’s Population and Housing Census (PHC) visited various places to count people in homeless households in makeshift structures and open spaces, described as “outside sleepers”, people who were in transit, those at transport terminals, those who were spending short stays in institutions such as hotels and guest houses and hospitals.

More than 60,000 enumerators across the country spent the night counting the eligible class of people in Ghana the Census Night was defined as the period between 6 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. on Monday.

The Census is still ongoing and Ranking Member of Appointment Committee, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has encouraged his constituents to get counted and ignore conspiracy theories.

In other news Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Mr. Samuel Abu-Jinapor has said that illegal mining cannot be eradicated.

According to him the fight against galamsey is a process that will see results gradually.
