India’s Covid-19 Cases Tally Crosses 30 Million

On Wednesday India’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 30-million mark, with 50,848 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 30.03 million, according to the country’s health ministry.

The nation is now only the second country, after the United States, which has 33.5 million cases, to reach this landmark. India surpassed the 10 million cases mark on December 19, and the 20 million mark on May 4.

As many as 50,848 cases were added over the past 24 hours. This is a 19% increase since Tuesday, when 42,640 cases were reported.

There are currently 643,194 active cases, a decrease of 19,327 since Tuesday morning.

India suffered a catastrophic second wave when reported coronavirus cases spiked between February and early May. It left hospitals overwhelmed and medical necessities like oxygen and medicines in short supply.
