Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Tofey has been ordered by the Sekondi High Court in the Western Region of Ghana to produce all valid documents that indicates that she has renounced her Ivorian citizenship before vying as MP for the area.
She has been ordered to produce all the document within 10 working days.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC)applied for the court to declare as ‘No Case’ and seeking to declare the election of the Jomoro MP as null and void but the Sekondi High Court presided over by Justice Dr. Richard Osei Hwere had quashed the application.
The Court states that there is merit in the application brought before it by one Joshua Emuah Kwofie asking the court to annul the results of the 2020 parliamentary elections for the Jomoro constituency on grounds that the elected MP, Dorcas Tofey holds dual citizenship and that the NDC’s counter application of ‘No Case’ cannot be granted.
According the court, the current MP, Docas Affo-Tofey admitted that indeed she had Ivorian citizenship but renounced it before contesting the election.
