Provide Amoured Bullion Vans Or We Will Stop Escorting Your Cash-IGP Tells Banks

The Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has charged Banks in Ghana to provide amoured cars for carting money else the police will stop escorting them.

He made this statement in wake of a recent attack on a police officer identified as Emmanuel Osei who was murdered in a broad day light robbery near James town.

In recent times attacks on security personnel have become rampant and many complain of unavailability of bullet proof vests that will protect them from armed men.

According James Oppong he will stop his men from escorting banks with bullion vans if they fail to provide armoured cars by the end of June 2021.

The IGP gave the directive in a statement on the back of the latest attack on a bullion van at Adedenpo, a suburb of James town in Accra on 14th June 2021.

“The IGP is also reminding the Association of Bankers to provide fortified armoured vehicles for carting currencies by the close of June 2021 as earlier agreed between them and the Police Service, else the Police withdraws its officers for escort duties,” the IGP warned in the statement
