Disregard Calls To Embark On Demonstration By #Fixthecountry Campaigners-Police To Ghanaians

Head of Public Affairs Unit at the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Effia Tenge has advised Ghanaians to disregard #fixthecountry campaigners call to demonstrate on the street of Greater Accra.

According to Effia Tenge on Joy FM last Tuesday June 8, #fixthecountry conveners cannot embark on the impending demonstration despite the Supreme Court setting aside an earlier order by an Accra High Court.

She noted that the #fixthecountry issue has been pending in court after the police filed an ex parte motion that restrained the conveners from demonstrating adding that the police hopes to extend the restriction.

“It is not now that the police is seeking a restraining order against the conveners. This case has been pending in court after the police filed an ex parte motion that restrained the conveners of #Fixthecountry from embarking on their demonstration. But because we went on an ex parte, for which the court granted an injunction, we have to go back to the court and this time around, on notice. We hope to extend our restriction,” she stated.

Effia Tenge stressed that the substantive case between the conveners of the #fixthecountry protest and the Police Service hasn’t gone back to the High Court which supposed to be on 14th June.

“this time around, the police that is, the prosecution unit, will have to state the grounds for which they earlier prevented the protestors from embarking on the demonstration and the conveners also will have to state their reasons why they think they have the right to go on that demonstration.” she stated.
