Sam George Authorizes the Dismissal of About 100 Ghana Post staff Over Irregular Recruitment.

Sam George, the communications minister, approved the dismissal of nearly 100 Ghana Post Limited employees, citing an irregular recruitment process. The affected employees were hired after the December 7, 2024, election, when the minister claims proper procedures were not followed.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Sam George emphasized his commitment to rectifying staffing anomalies within the ministry and its agencies. He highlighted the challenge of inheriting a workforce of 3,117 staff, with 600 recruited post-election, stating, “You cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalization is ongoing.”

This move aligns with the government’s broader initiative to review and, where necessary, reverse public sector appointments made after the election, particularly those deemed to have bypassed established protocols. Similar actions have been observed in other agencies under the Communications Ministry. For instance, approximately 16 staff members at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) faced termination under comparable circumstances.

The Ningo-Prampram legislator emphasized that he is on a mission to “Clean up the ministry to make sure that it is lean and efficient and carries out its work.”

The government has been reverting many post-election employments in the public sector, which it says was done without following the laid-down procedures in various sectors of the economy.
