Member of Parliament for South Dayi in the Volta Region of Ghana, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor has said that the second most powerful man in Ghana is not the Vice President of Ghana but the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
According to the member of Parliament, Alban Bagbin was voted into office through the Parliamentarians in Ghana’s 8th Parliament therefore constitutionally he is more powerful than Vice Dr. Bawumia.
The lawmaker went on to say that the Vice President wasn’t voted into office by Ghanaians and that his existence is tied to the President who can fire him at anytime he wants.
”I think he is number two because you see, in the scheme of things we never voted for the Vice President so he’s subservient to the President.”
Speaking on whether the Speaker of Parliament was also voted into office, he replied saying; that’s a very serious election. The procedure for doing that is constitutionally determined so that was a public election.
Vice President is attached to the President and can decide tomorrow to dismiss him. So Speaker is indeed number two. In fact our attention was drawn to that by a Supreme Court Judge.
