Have Your Tithes And Offerings Reduced-Allotey Jacobs Questions Catholic Bishops

A former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the Catholic Bishops to be open on whether tithes and offerings their congregation pay has reduce following they attributing hardship in the country to Nana Addo’s government.

This comes after the Catholic Bishops through its President lamented on failure on the part of government to protect the public purse as well as paid deaf ears to cries of Ghanaians.

The President of the Catholic Bishop Conference Most Rev. Philip Naameh speaking at the 2021 plenary assembly of the association in the Capital town of Upper West Region, Wa said although poverty is staring at Ghanaians it appears lost to the leaders.

“The expressed commitment of the president of the republic to protect the public purse – a promise that citizens welcomed – seems to be an illusion now”, he continued.

“Are those managing the public purse not concerned about [the] waste and misapplication of resources that belong to all Ghanaians?” he quizzed.

Allotey Jacobs who reacted to statement from the Ghana Catholic Bishops said all that they are complaining about is something that has been with Ghanaians for long because there has never been a perfect situation in Ghana.

He went on to say since the era of Kwame Nkrumah no government can boldly say that he has solved problems in the country because ”we’re never satisfied”.

Questioning the Bishops on tithes he said; ” . . do I have to say that the church’s collection, tithes and dues are dwindling, so may be from that angle, he (President of the Bishops’ Conference) sees that people are suffering?”,
