Senegalese-American singer, Akon has stated that he was happier when he was a poor man than when he became successful noting that life is tougher for the rich than poor.
He made this comment while defending a statement he made following actor Michael K. Williams’ death in September 2021.
He used Williams’ death to show that the more one becomes successful the more problems they will have.
“Nobody can sit there and tell me, that I didn’t go through poverty. I was the young African kid, barefoot and playing soccer in the village with no electricity, no running water, I knew what that looked like – believe me, I know what poverty looks like”, he said while speaking in an interview on TMZ on 4th October 2021.
”But I also know what success looks like, and from my personal experience, I’m having more problems successfully dealing with all that comes with success than I had when I was poor. I was actually happier when I was poor”, he said.
His comment has got some folks to wonder what really could have gone wrong in Akon’s head.
